Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Sport

This post arose because of the ‘legacy funding’ given to schools after the 2012 Olympics. We decided four years ago to use the funding to add to our extensive and experienced support staff, but with a specific focus on sport. We have since had two HLTA’s in place who have both added a great deal to the school, and have moved on to work elsewhere with the experience they have gained.

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant role gives recognition to the fact that the successful person will have a varied role, working alongside teachers and children from Foundation Stage to Y6. There will also be opportunities to lead PE lessons as well.

The post is line managed by our new PE Subject Leader from September 2018, Helen Philips, who being new to the role will be able to work alongside the successful candidate. The school has an experienced staff, many of whom are experienced in the teaching of PE, so we feel this role is mutually beneficial to all.

Over the past few years the school has become more and more involved in competition both in school and against other schools. The post holder will be fully involved in this as well. Because of this the three days worked may have to be flexible from time to time, and any additional hours worked can be claimed for on top of the 16.5 hours worked in school.

This was an exciting departure for us in 2014 and the vision for PE in our school is clear. We hope that the opportunity appeals to someone out there, perhaps someone with a sporting background, or someone thinking about going into teaching ultimately. If you wish you discuss the role further, please feel free to give the school a ring and leave a message for myself or my Deputy Head, Lorna Rainey and we will try and get back to you as soon as we can.

The closing date for the post is Friday 6th July (noon) with interviews following on Tuesday 10th July.

Thank you for showing an interest in the post.

With my very best wishes,

Nick Long

(Head Teacher)
