ASPIN CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
We are keen to ensure that the children at our school have a broad, balanced, creative and challenging curriculum that enables them to progress and succeed both now and in the future. We follow the statutory Primary Curriculum* for KS1 and KS2, and Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (currently 2012) for Foundation, but have developed these to meet the needs of the children in our school.
Where possible we try to deliver the children’s learning through themes where different strands of learning can be drawn together in meaningful and real-life ways for the children. However, sometimes subjects need to be taught discretely and we only link subjects into our given themes if they are relevant and purposeful. We also try to ensure our school aims (the Seeds of Success) pervade our themes - showing the children how they relate to different aspects of our world and trying to help them apply these qualities in both their learning and their life.
Attached below is an outline curriculum for each year group (see Policies for a copy of our current curriculum policy), which may be flexed and adapted depending on the children’s learning needs as the year progresses. If you would like to know more about the statutory Primary curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, please see the Department of Education website.
As part of our curriculum offering we also run various clubs and competitions in dedicated school time throughout the year. Please see the attached document for further details.
